Umroi Village Welcomes Four-Lane Highway Project, Ensures No Harm to Local Water Source

HEADLINES

The village of Umroi Pyllun has warmly welcomed the construction of a four-lane highway that will allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h, promising to bring development and economic growth to the region.

Speaking on the matter, village headman of Umroi Umbyrthih, Shri Pynwanbor Sylliang, revealed that the village has accepted the project without opposition. The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) will oversee the construction, aiming to ease traffic congestion in the area with the new highway running from Umeit through Umroi.

“The villagers are glad this new route will only affect about 15 households, compared to around 70 if the road followed the existing path,” Shri Pynwanbor explained. He further clarified that the project would not impact the village’s vital water source at Umroi Madan, which lies approximately 70 meters from the highway’s planned route. This assurance comes after concerns were raised about potential environmental damage.

According to the village headman, NHIDCL has committed to using modern techniques that do not involve blasting, and will ensure proper protection of the water source. The villagers are reassured that there will be no disruption to their water supply, a critical resource for the community.

The village authorities have expressed satisfaction with the proposed highway, seeing it as a positive step towards regional development while ensuring minimal impact on local homes and natural resources.
