The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) on Monday filed a formal complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP), I Nongrang, against the East Jaiñtia Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills and the Waheh Shnong, as well as Narpuh Private Cement Ltd. and Meghatop Private Cement Ltd.
In addition to the police complaint, HITO also lodged a grievance with the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC), citing violations of residents’ rights to speak during the recent public hearings.
Furthermore, the organization submitted a complaint to the Chief Secretary, DP Wahlang, against the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills and the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB).
Donbok Dkhar the president of HITO, stated that the complaint to the MHRC was based on biased conduct at public hearings, where residents were allegedly not given the right to voice their concerns. He also highlighted the violation of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) charter by the Waheh Shnong, accusing them of infringing on residents’ rights.
