SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H. Pala has claimed that a growing number of members from the National People’s Party (NPP) and other political parties are preparing to return to the Congress, alleging deep dissatisfaction within the ruling party over the government’s treatment of small contractors.
According to Pala, many minor and financially struggling contractors affiliated with the NPP have been left unpaid for completed works, while only a select few wealthy and well-connected individuals continue to receive payments from the government.
This (NPP) government has favored the same handful of people again and again, while the smaller contractors are ignored, Pala alleged.
He added that this imbalance has severely affected those working on the ground, many of whom are now in debt because the government has not released their payments. The rich continue to get richer while the poor struggle to survive this is the sad reality under the NPP, Pala added.
Pala said the growing frustration among grassroots workers and contractors is one of the reasons why many from the NPP and other parties are now inclined to rejoin the Congress.
