Shillong: In a crackdown carried out today, personnel from the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) and Special Operations Team (SOT) raided illegal shops in the Stand Jeep area of Shillong. However, shop owners and vendors managed to flee the scene, abandoning their goods. Police were able to apprehend only one individual.
During the operation, authorities seized a large quantity of contraband, including approximately 85 kilograms of cannabis, along with both local and Indian-made liquor, and beer. The items had been carefully concealed in hidden corners of the area.
Vendors reportedly disguised their activities by keeping the goods out of sight, making it appear as though nothing illegal was taking place. Meanwhile, customers who were aware of the setup would signal the sellers, who would then discreetly bring out the hidden items.
Before the police arrived, most of the shop owners had already escaped, and efforts are currently underway to track them down.
Police from Lumdiengjri Police Station have seized all the illegal items for further legal action, while the locally brewed liquor was destroyed on the spot by being poured into a drain.
