September 30 KHADC to Elect New CEM, VPP’s Winston Tony Lyngdoh Likely to Win Unopposed

HEADLINES

Shillong: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will elect its new Chief Executive Member (CEM) on September 30, with voting scheduled at 11 AM inside the Council hall.

Following the resignation of Bah Shemborlang Rynjah due to health issues, the Voice of the People Party (VPP), which enjoys a majority in the KHADC, has fielded Nongthymmai MDC Bah Winston Tony Lyngdoh as its candidate.

With the opposition yet to announce any nominee, Lyngdoh is widely expected to assume the post uncontested, giving VPP a smooth continuation of leadership in the Council.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who oversees the District Council Affairs (DCA), confirmed that the government has accepted Rynjah’s resignation and declared him caretaker CEM until the new leader is elected.

The election marks an important transition for the Council, where the VPP commands a clear numerical advantage with 18 members in the 30-member House, making its candidate the natural frontrunner.
