Nongpoh, September 19: Members of the Meghalaya Film Maker Association (MEFILMA) Ri Bhoi Unit have raised concerns about the lack of opportunities for local artists to participate in major state events, specifically the Cherry Blossom Festival. The group, led by President Lansius Syiemlieh and Secretary Jemberson Marak, met with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, Abhilash Baranwal, to address this issue.
During the meeting, Lansius Syiemlieh expressed disappointment that local artists from Ri Bhoi were not given the chance to perform in last year’s Cherry Blossom Festival, with preference seemingly given to artists from outside the district. He stressed the importance of providing local talent with platforms to showcase their skills, which could help them grow in their respective fields.
Despite welcoming artists from other regions, Syiemlieh emphasized the need for inclusion and equal representation for Ri Bhoi artists in state-sponsored festivals and events. The Deputy Commissioner responded positively to these concerns and assured that the state government would consider providing more opportunities for local artists in future events, including the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival.
This initiative aims to ensure that local talent is recognized and given the chance to shine on larger platforms, promoting cultural diversity and local artistry in the state.
