Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who oversees the Police Department, stated that before reopening the road at Them Ïewmawlong, a thorough assessment is necessary to ensure that it does not disrupt law and order. Tynsong provided this information in response to a supplementary question from VPP MLA Adelbert Nongrum, who raised concerns about traffic congestion in Shillong, particularly in the Motphran and Them Ïewmawlong areas.
Nongrum highlighted that the ongoing closure of the road from Ïewmawlong to Bimola, which has been in place for over six years, is a major contributor to the traffic issues in the area. In response, Tynsong informed the assembly that the government has already held discussions on reopening the road but emphasized the need for a detailed investigation to ensure that any decision does not affect public safety and security. He added that the government would make a decision after receiving all necessary information in the coming days.
