Shillong: Mawsynram MLA Olland Sing Suin has put forth a strong argument in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, stating that Mawsynram, with its larger area, population, and better infrastructure, deserves to be granted a Civil Sub-Division, especially when compared to Pynursla and Ranikor, which already have their own Sub-Divisions.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong responded by acknowledging that the government is currently examining the proposal for establishing a Civil Sub-Division in Mawsynram. He stated that the relevant departments have found Mawsynram well-equipped for this status, and the government is carefully considering the matter.
In a related query, Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope asked whether there are any plans to create a new district by dividing East Khasi Hills District. In response, Prestone Tynsong mentioned that the government is also examining this possibility, but no concrete decision has been made yet.
MLA Olland emphasized that Mawsynram has a long history as a Community and Rural Development Block, dating back to the time when Meghalaya was part of Assam, and he urged the government to recognize its current needs and importance by establishing a Civil Sub-Division.
