Nongpoh, January 20: The residents of Raid Madan Kyrdem including women, youths and elders, yesterday continued to express their opposition to the intention of instating a landfill in Mawlwai village which falls under the jurisdiction of Raid Madan Kyrdem, Ri-Bhoi District.
The opposition on the intention to have the landfill known as Solid Waste Management instated in Mawlwai village was expressed by the local public residents of Mawlwai, Kyrdem, Mawkyrdep, Klew, Mawbsein villages, who gathered in full strength carrying along placards inscribed with words to express their opposition to the intention of the Government.
Besides the local village administrators, leaders of the Seng Samla, male and female elders, on this day the MLA of Umroi constituency, George B.Lyngdoh was also present to support the people and he also clarified to the public that he had no knowledge of the intention of the Government to instate the landfill in the village and that he was informed about it only until the time the public came out to oppose it on the 12th of this month.
George B.Lyngdoh from his end promised that he will intervene with the State Government and will also submit a petition seeking clarification on the intention for as an MLA too, he has no knowledge at all of the intention to have a landfill which has been vehemently opposed to by the public.
