Pala welcomes Zenith’s return to Congress, says Mukul’s position differs and decision lies with AICC

Shillong: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H. Pala has said that most Congress members are pleased with the return of Zenith M. Sangma to the party, describing it as a positive development after months of internal discussions.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Pala said the party had been in talks for nearly three months before officially welcoming Zenith back.

He (Zenith) left three years ago, but nothing much has changed since then. During his time with Congress, he was a strong leader who understood the party’s workings well, Pala remarked.

He added that several other leaders are also likely to rejoin the Congress, but are currently waiting for the right time to make their move.

When asked about the possibility of former chief minister Dr. Mukul Sangma’s return, Pala clarified that Mukul’s case is different and beyond his authority to decide.

Dr. Mukul’s position is of a different level..it’s a matter that has to be discussed by the party’s central leadership in Delhi, and a meeting of Congress leaders in Garo Hills will likely be needed, he said.

Pala further stated that he holds no personal differences with Dr. Mukul.

He (Mukul) himself told me that his exit from Congress was not because of me, but due to other reasons. During his time as chief minister, I was still an officer, so I have no issue accepting him back. The decision, however, rests entirely with the AICC, Pala concluded.
