Shillong: Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against individuals linked to a viral video that allegedly claims he approved Esmatur Mominin to file nomination papers for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Election 2026.
Dr. Sangma strongly refuted the claims, stating that no such discussion or approval was ever given either by him or by any of his representatives.
In the FIR, he warned that the circulation of such misinformation could have serious social consequences, particularly amid the already tense atmosphere surrounding the participation of non-tribals in the upcoming GHADC elections.
According to Dr. Sangma, the video shows Mominin addressing a gathering of people after he was allegedly assaulted earlier on Monday.
He further stated that the speech delivered in the video contains “vitriolic election rhetoric” and, given the sensitive situation, could potentially provoke certain groups and fuel disharmony among communities.
Dr. Sangma expressed concern that the narrative being spread through the video may be misleading and dangerous, urging authorities to investigate the matter.
