Mawkyrwat, March 14: In one incident which took place on the night of the 13th of March, 2022, a few miscreants tried to set the Wah-nohriang bridge which connects a few villages in the Phlangkynshi area in South West Khasi Hills District on fire.
As per the statement issued the Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills District, B.J.Laloo, MPS, it is said that this incident took place on Sunday the 13th of March,2022 at around 10:00 PM when a few people returning from the Synod Service held in Mawnai first noticed the fire and informed the police force immediately.
It also said that after these people returning from the prayer service found the bridge on fire, they too tried to help in extinguishing the fire with the help of tree branches which was spreading to the wooden parts of the bridge.
He also said that even after the people tried to extinguish the fire, there were still some parts which remained burning as they could not reach the parts underneath the bridge. However, with the fast arrival of the Fire & Emergency Service the fire was extinguished completely and the bridge was saved from being completely burnt down.
“A few sack-like materials were found on the bridge with which the miscreants tried to set the fire and a few parts which were beginning to catch fire due to the spread of the rapidly rising fire” said the SP.
With regard to this incident, the elders of Domtynrong area have already filed a complaint in the Police Station, South West Khasi Hills District and the investigation on the matter is ongoing.
