The Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL) has initiated the controlled release of water from the Umiam Stage I Reservoir following a weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on August 21, 2024. The release began at 23:40 hours on August 21, 2024, in response to the forecast of significant rainfall over the next seven days.
At the time the release started, the water level in the reservoir was recorded at 3216.15 feet. MePGCL is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to adjust the gate openings as needed to ensure the safe and effective management of the reservoir, aiming to mitigate any potential downstream impacts.
