The much-awaited Megha Kayak Fest 2025 is set to make waves once again from October 14–18, 2025, at the scenic Shillong Whitewater Village, Umtham, Ri-Bhoi District, marking its seventh edition with a historic first — the inaugural Asian Extreme Kayak Championship. The event will bring together some of Asia’s and the world’s top paddlers to battle the thrilling rapids of the Umtrew River.
Organised by the Ri-Bhoi Water Sports & Tourism Corporation Society Ltd. in collaboration with the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, and the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA), the festival promises a world-class celebration of sport, adventure, and nature. Registration opens on October 14 at the venue and welcomes kayakers of all levels to participate in India’s most dynamic whitewater competition.

This year’s programme features signature events like the Down River Sprint and Canoe Slalom Cross, alongside new additions under the Asian Extreme Kayak Championship — the Extreme Sprint and Enduro categories, designed to push athletes to their limits on Meghalaya’s challenging waters.
In line with its commitment to gender equality and inclusiveness, the festival maintains equal prize money across all categories. Winners in the Down River Sprint, Kayak Cross, and Extreme Kayak Sprint & Enduro will each receive ₹30,000, while the overall champion will take home ₹75,000.

Since its inception, the Megha Kayak Fest has evolved into one of Asia’s premier whitewater festivals, attracting over 80 professional and amateur kayakers from India, Nepal, the UK, and beyond. The event has helped position Meghalaya as a rising hub for eco-adventure tourism and extreme water sports.
With its fusion of sport, community, and conservation, the Megha Kayak Fest 2025 reaffirms Meghalaya’s growing global reputation for sustainable adventure tourism. As participants and spectators converge at Shillong Whitewater Village this October, they can expect five days of adrenaline, cultural exchange, and unforgettable experiences on the rapids.
