LONE YOUTH ARRIVES AT THE SECRETARIAT TO APPEAL THE GOVERNMENT TO RELEASE COAL CHALLANS

HEADLINES

Regional Shylla, a youth from Jaiñtia Hills, today stated that he submitted a petition with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K.Sangma on the Government’s delay in releasing the challans for coal trade.

Speaking with the media persons, Shylla said that his decision to go and submit the petition with the Chief Minister comes after he had seen a remainder of 32 metric tonnes of coal which had been mined in the past and already auctioned by Coal India Limited, but till date the Government has not released the challans for it.

Furthermore, this youth said that each challan cost upto ₹95,000 but it is understood that this price is not as per the stipulated price of Coal India Limited and till the time the Government releases the challans, then only will the price of the challan be known if it is lesser.

He said that after the NGT banned coal trading in the State, a lot of problems arose for the coal traders and most were struggling to even buy food and essentials items, but if the Government releases the challan, it will ease the problems of the poor and the challan released should not be at high price but at a low price.
