SHILLONG, June 27: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma said that the load shedding has been put into effect due to the 5 non-functional units from which the State received power which includes NEEPCO,OTPC and other units belonging to the State.
He said 3 units that are used to generate power have not been working at all, these units generate upto 110 MW of electricity which has led to the State becoming power deficient.
He also informed that the other reason is that the 3 units of the State, Leshka, Umïam and Umtru are undergoing repair and renovation work which cannot be avoided, and added that about 42 MW from Leshka and 21 MW of power generation has been affected due to this.
Another reason that Conrad wants to express is that the State has to fulfill the power banking commitment without fail and every month about 18 million units must be paid to companies because in the event of a power deficit in the State, the same will be given to the State then.
The Chief Minister informed that the Government has discussed the load shedding matter in detail to avoid inconvenience to the public because in some areas the load shedding has to remain for upto 2-3 hours. At the same time he expressed hope that within a week some units will be functional again and urged the public to be patient with the Government.
