Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) General Secretary, Donald V Thabah, has strongly criticized the state government for its passive response to Jagadguru Shankaracharya’s plan to campaign against beef consumption in Meghalaya.
KSU members, along with other pressure groups, gathered at Shillong Airport yesterday and today to prevent the group’s planned rally and press conference in the state. Thabah stated that the government only acted after public protests, accusing it of doing things reluctantly and under public pressure.
He contrasted this with Nagaland, where the government promptly refused such activities without public intervention. KSU members also planned to intercept Shankaracharya’s arrival at Byrnihat, as he is currently at Guwahati Airport.
