United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA Lahkmen Rymbui has highlighted a unique voting trend in the Jaintia Hills MDC elections, where voters often prioritize familial or kinship ties when choosing their candidates.
Speaking on the dynamics of the MDC elections, Rymbui noted that constituencies in Jaintia Hills have relatively fewer voters, with many having just over 10,000 eligible voters. This, he said, leads to decisions being influenced by sentiments of kinship, with voters often supporting candidates who are relatives, close family members, or belong to the same village.
Despite these challenges, Rymbui affirmed that the UDP is well-prepared for the elections, much like other political parties, each of which has its own strategy for the polls.
