Shillong : A non-local resident identified as Shankar Paul has been accused of illegally claiming a plot of land belonging to Lina Mawrie at Lumshngain, Ryngjah, and allegedly securing an electricity connection for the disputed property.
Following the complaint, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) central body, led by General Secretary Tyllibor Swer, on Sunday visited the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub-Division Laban/Lapalang, seeking clarification on how the electricity connection was issued despite the ownership dispute.
Speaking to reporters, Tyllibor Swer alleged that Shankar Paul has been claiming ownership of the land since 2022.
He further claimed that the documents submitted by the accused did not prove legal ownership of the land and were merely based on an agreement between two individuals. The organisation questioned how the department accepted the documents and approved the electricity connection without proper verification.
According to documents available with the complainant, the land belongs to the Mawrie clan and is registered in the name of Lina Mawrie.
The HNYF has given the department two days to resolve the matter, warning that the organisation and the landowners will take necessary action if no steps are taken within the deadline.
