Workers of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on Thursday removed tangled and hanging overhead cables in the Khyndailad area as part of a cleanup drive.
The workers were seen taking down abandoned and non-functional cables, while reorganising, securing and properly fastening those that remain in use to improve safety and reduce clutter.
Although SMB officials declined to comment on the exercise, the drive comes just two days after Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that the state government would begin removing tangled overhead cables from utility poles across Shillong ahead of the upcoming National Games.
