Political parties should stop misleading public on ILP: Ampareen

HEADLINES

National People’s Party (NPP) MLA from East Shillong, Ampareen Lyngdoh, has said that the power to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya rests with the Central Government and cautioned political parties against misleading the public by promising to enforce it if they come to power.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said there is considerable confusion surrounding the ILP issue, stressing that the state government cannot implement it on its own.

She criticised political parties that claim they will introduce the ILP after assuming office, describing such promises as misleading since the matter is beyond the state’s jurisdiction.

According to Lyngdoh, the implementation of the ILP lies solely with the Union Government, specifically the Ministry of Home Affairs.

She urged political leaders to be honest with the public and refrain from making promises that cannot be fulfilled under the constitutional framework.
