The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has firmly backed the Dorbar Shnong Mawsynram’s decision to prohibit any religious ceremonies at the Mawjymbuiñ cave.
This was confirmed by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC, Shri Pyniaid Sing Syiem, in response to a Zero Hour Notice raised by MDC Shri Balajied Ranee from Nongpoh during the Dorbar Tlang session of the KHADC on Thursday.
Shri Balajied Ranee brought forward the notice following a threat issued by the Seng Kutumba Suraksha Parishad (KSP) to block roads if Hindu religious ceremonies were allowed at the Mawjymbuiñ cave in Mawsynram.
The Zero Hour Notice also saw the participation of the leader of the opposing faction, Shri Titostarwell Chyne, the MDC from Sohra. Shri Chyne stated that the matter was not only a concern for the state government but also for the District Council and the indigenous community as a whole.
