The Hills State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming District Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2025. The list includes six candidates for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and two for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
Prominent names include HSPDP President Shri KP Pangngiang from Rambrai Jyrngam and Kong Badariti L Nonglait from Nongstoiñ, the successor to the late Shri Hopingstone Lyngdoh. However, the name of incumbent Mawkynrew MDC Shri Martle N Mukhim was notably absent from the list.
HSPDP General Secretary Shri PL Ryntathiang stated that a second list of candidates will be announced in the coming days. Addressing concerns over Shri Mukhim’s exclusion, Shri KP Pangngiang clarified that this is only the first list and assured that names of other leaders, including MLAs, will feature in the next announcement.
The party emphasized its three core principles for contesting the elections: preservation, protection, and progress for the people.
