The Jaintia National Council (JNC) organized a Black Flag Rally in East Jaintia Hills to protest against the proposed railway project in the region. The demonstration served as a strong symbol of opposition against the government’s plans, especially in light of the failed railway project in Ri Bhoi district.
During the rally, JNC members carried banners with slogans such as #WeRejectedRailway and #JaintiaRejectedRailway, emphasizing their firm stance against the introduction of railways in Jaintia Hills. The council reiterated that until a proper mechanism is established to control the influx of outsiders into Meghalaya, they will continue to resist any railway expansion in the state.
The protest march is set to commence soon in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District, as part of JNC’s continued opposition to the railway project.
