Leader of the Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma today introduced a resolution in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, seeking approval to establish Tura as the Winter Capital of the state.
While tabling the resolution, Dr. Mukul emphasized that the proposal aligns with the vision of past leaders to strengthen unity among the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities by ensuring balanced development across the state.
He also expressed support for the government’s initiative of holding cabinet meetings in different locations, including Jowai, Sohra, and other towns, and suggested that Assembly sessions should also be held in different regions to promote inclusivity.
Dr. Mukul urged the government to examine the feasibility of holding Winter Sessions in Tura and extending the practice to other districts as well. He stressed that his proposal was not politically motivated but rather a reflection of the aspirations of the people, aiming to foster unity and inclusiveness among the different communities of Meghalaya.
