SHILLONG, May 25: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma said that the Government will have a Monitoring Committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary in connection with the constructions and projects of the Government, and the Committee will inform of the findings from time to time.
The Chief Minister said this in response to the criticisms of the leader of the Opposition, Dr.Mukul Sangma about having an Independent Quality Monitoring Team to oversee construction projects of the Government.
With regards to the collapse of the dome installed in the new Assembly building, he said that it was an unexpected incident as the Government had been working hard towards its completion.
He said that it now depends on the investigation to see if the incident could have been avoided because it is an unexpected incident and occured also in other buildings. He said that the technicality must be understood well also, as the task is a difficult one especially in connection with the size of the dome as no one has ever tried working on this kind project in the region since it is a very difficult work to carry out.
He said that with regard to this, it must be understood that it is quite difficult and unexpected event since it is not an easy building to work on and if it had been completed as intended it would have been an iconic structure.
With regards to the black remark of companies including M/S Design Associates and Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd, the Chief Minister said that he has no knowledge of that and added that the investigations can continue if allegations are charged and if they have been condemned or found to have done something bad then that needs to be taken seriously.
He said that he shall find out about this allegation, and further stated that condemnation while investigation is still in process is wrong.
