Shillong: In a significant development, the central government has given the green light for the establishment of 266 additional Anganwadi centers for the Social Welfare development in Meghalaya.

Moreover, 1266 Anganwadi mini centers are set to be upgraded to main centers. Paul Lyngdoh, the Minister of Social Welfare, announced on Friday that construction work is slated to commence after the monsoon season. The funding will be shared with a ratio of 90% from the central government and 10% from the state.

Lyngdoh also revealed that each of the upgraded centers will now be staffed with two workers and two helpers. In a welcome move, the honorarium for workers is set to see an increase from Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500 per month.

The total fund requirement for this development is estimated to be Rs 826.38 lakhs, with the central government’s contribution standing at 743.74 lakhs.

Furthermore, the Minister shared that the creation of 266 new Anganwadi centers will necessitate the appointment of honorary workers, including 266 Anganwadi workers and 266 helpers. This move marks a significant step towards bolstering social welfare efforts in the region.
