Shillong: The Mawlai Mawiong Dorbar on Thursday met with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, R M Kurbah to raise concerns about the need to relocate the seized coal that has been dumped in the area under Mawlai Mawiong’s jurisdiction.

The Dorbar has requested the Deputy Commissioner to take action in relocating the deposited coal, as it poses environmental hazards and threatens the residents living in the vicinity of the dumping site.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting with the DC, S Lyngdoh, the Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Mawiong, stated that the Dorbar has been urging the government to remove the coal from Mawiong for the past three years. However, no action has been taken by the government.

Lyngdoh further emphasized that he has given the government a 15-day ultimatum to move the coal, or else the Dorbar Shnong will take necessary action on their own.
