Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister incharge of Urban Affairs Department, Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the government of Meghalaya remain committed in allocating the 342 families of the Harijans from Thewïewmawlong, Ïewduh.

Stating that the demands of the Harijan people are too farfetched, Dhar while speaking to media personnel on Thursday said, “it is not possible. Frankly, not possible there demands are too high”.

The Dy CM incharge of Urban said that the State Government has file an affidavit in the Meghalaya High Court, stating that, “we have filed an affidavit that the Harijan community did not accept the proposal of the government. Simple, we informed the Court like that only”.

However, Deputy CM incharge of Home who is also the Chairman of the High Level Committee (HLC), Prestone Tyngsong is out of station. Therefore, the government will take a call on the matter next week, informed Dy CM Sniawbhalang.

Rejecting the government proposal, the HPC has demanded a 200 square metre plot of land for each family besides Rs 20 lakh per unit. The HPC terms the govt proposal as “incomplete, unsuitable, unprepared, unfair and undemocratic”.
