Shillong: The High Powered Committee (HPC) of the Meghalaya Legislative on Thursday gave administrative approved on the new design of the dome of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang
The meeting today chaired by Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Deputy Speaker Timothy D. Shira, legislators Charles Pyngrope, Lahkmen Rymbui, and Banteidor Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, Commissioner & Secretary, Meghalaya Assembly, Dr. Andrew Simons and other government officials.
The Speaker after the meeting informed that the HPC has gave financial approval for the new dome design, stating that increase of scope of work for the under-construction Assembly.
The new design has been vetted by the two IITs- IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati, informed Speaker.
He also informed that the process of the construction will proceed soon.
“The HPC sat to give administrative approval (to the new dome design) and also there was some financial approval required. The scope of work has also increased,” the Speaker informed, adding that the work will resume in full swing after Eid.
He also informed that the HPC has appointed a Programme Monitoring Committee (PMC) as per the observations made by IIT Guwahati in the report on the collapse of the dome.
He further said the PWD & PMC have been instructed to look at the second phase of construction simultaneously.
