Difficult to put check on illegal transportation of coal due to lack of manpower: DGP Bishnoi

Shillong: The Director General of Police (DGP) LR Bishnoi on Friday said that the police department faced serious challenges in curbing illegal transportation of coal in the State due to shortage of manpower in the police department.

However, the DGP said the department has taken corrective measures on the mistakes pointed out by the High Court when it comes to the alleged illegal transportation of coal.

Accordingly, the MLP in their possibly manner are trying to the routes where there is an attempt for illegal transportation of coal.

Speaking on the law and order front, DGP said that the law and order situation is more or less peaceful. He further said that they are getting full cooperation from the people.

Stating that militancy is not lowest ever, the DGP said that the police have to be ready for the future challenges.

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong held a review meeting of the police department on Friday.

He said that the most challenging is the problem of lack of manpower and around 3500 to 4000 posts are vacant. He said that the personal interviews to fill up around 1000 post is on and once done they will immediately start the process of recruitment and fill up the vacancies by this year itself.

He said this will improve policing and lift up the morale of the police force.
