Shillong: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) suggested the State government to implement the ‘Sikkim Model’ of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) so it will not affect the tourist inflow into the State.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, FKJGP president Dundee Khongsit said that ILP will not affect the inflow of tourist into the state if the government come up with a policy of mandatory registration of the tourist.

Khongsit who visited the state of Sikkim to learn about the ILP and its impact on Tourism, said that the government are merely giving excuses and urged the State government to pressure on the Central in implementing the Inner Line Permit in Meghalaya.

As tourism industry is the most and fastest booming sector and can provide with job opportunities for the unemployed youths, Khongsit said that it is only when there is a proper mechanism to check the tourist inflow into the State that the government can tap all revenue possibilities. Else, at the moment both national and international tourists come and go freely without no proper checking, said Khongsit.
