4 people arrested on charges for murder of Omega Myrthong


Shillong: The Meghalaya Police on Monday afternoon informed the arrested of four persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of one Omega Myrthong (30) of Mawlaingut village on February 26.

The accused were identified of which three persons were arrested on April 1, while one more was arrested on April 2, Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said in a statement issued on Monday.

He said on the fateful night of February 26, the deceased was then abducted and killed at Pomlum view point and the body chopped up by the banks of the Umiam Lake.

A Bolero pick up was used to abduct the deceased and the clothes of the deceased were recovered today, on the leading of the accused from Dewsaw Krang and Nongpathaw jungle respectively.

Investigation is on to complete the case and chargesheet will be filed soon, the SP said.

Omega Myrthong went missing from the village on February 26.

A missing case was registered at Lumdiengjri police station and on conducting search, a decomposed head suspected to be of the missing person was recovered on March 7 from the banks of the Umiam lake.

On March 8, the left arm and the right arm were recovered from separate locations around Umiam lake which was in a decomposed state and later the half buried torso was also recovered around the area.

The post mortem of the body was done on March 10 at civil hospital, Nongpoh. A case was registered and investigation was taken up. The seized exhibits were sent to FSL, Shillong and CFSL Kolkata for examination.
