Centre denies CM’s request seeking exemption of CUET; extends enrolment till 30 March

Shillong: Commissioner and Secretary of Education, B.D.R Tiwari on Friday informed that the Central government has extended the online application form for the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) UG 2023 has been extended to March 30.

This came after the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on March 7 has requested exemption of CUET in the State by stating the delay of State Board examination due to the recent Assembly Election and where students are facing unprecedented challenges to attempt the CUET for the State level undergraduates institutions.

However, Tiwari the Commissioner and Secretary of Education, Government of Meghalaya said that the timelines for enrolment has been extended till March 30 from the initial March 12.

Adding to it, Cabinet Minister and Spokesperson of the Government, Paul Lyngdoh said the government acting on the request of the majority they will follow up with the request for exemption of CUET for the students in the State.

It may be mentioned, in 2022 after the request from the CM of the State, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have announced the exemption of CUET for the undergraduate courses in colleges affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya.
