Shillong, March 4: National People’s Party (NPP) vice president Prestone Tynsong on Saturday condemned the arson that took place on Friday evening at HSPDP MLA Methodius Dkhar’s office in Laitumkhrah.
Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said such incidents including the attack on Mawthadraishan MLA Shakliar Warjri’s kin’s house is unfortunate.
Tynsong said such activities will not be entertained and the government will make efforts to ensure culprits are booked at the earliest.
“It seems these people are trying to snatch away the constitutional rights of the elected representatives. We will not allow such criminal activities to happen in Meghalaya just because an MLA wanted to join any political party to form govt. (I) appeal them to stop such acts and the government will make all efforts to ensure culprits are booked at the earliest,” said Tynsong.
He also went on to say that a few NGOs like Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) and Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) seem to be political wings of some political parties. “ Whenever they go to places in the Khasi Jaintia region they talk openly about who people should vote for. NGOs are not supposed to be involved in the political process directly,” stated Tynsong.
The NPP vice president also informed that the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister are expected to attend the swearing in ceremony on Tuesday. “We have instructed police force that law and order is maintained at all cost especially before swearing in which will be held on March 7,” informed Tynsong.
When asked about the concerns and demands of the people wanting a Khasi Chief Minister, Tynsong said that people will have to understand that NPP emerged as the single largest party and that among the party they have chosen Conrad Sangma to be the chief minister again.
