Shillong, September 15: The National People’s Party (NPP) today the 15th of September welcomed the two MDCs, Dr.Sankey Shangpung who is the MDC of Bataw-Lakadong of the JHADC and Sherborlang L.Mawlong who is the MDC of Nongspung-Sohïong of the KHADC. The two MDCs were welcomed at a gathering held in the NPP office in Shillong by the forefront leaders of the party, the National President, Conrad K.Sangma, National Vice President, Prestone Tynsong among others.
Dr.Sankey Shangpung who won the MDC election in 2019 on a UDP ticket said that his exit from the UDP is not due to any grievance with the party or the MLA of the constituency, but his exit from the UDP to join the NPP is only after he has closely studied the political scenario of the State, for he has seen the works of the NPP which other parties have not been capable of achieving, including the matters pertaining to Them Ïew Mawlong and boundary issue.
Sherbor L.Mawlong who won the MDC election on an HSPDP ticket said that he has no issue with the HSPDP, and it is a good party, but he wants to join a better party and that is the NPP.
Speaking at the welcome meeting, Prestone Tynsong said that the party feels confident at the two MDCs joining the NPP along with their supporters and expressed hope that in 2023, Khliehriat and Sohïong will be the seats of the NPP.
The National President of the NPP who is also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K.Sangma warmly welcomed the two MDCs to the NPP.
