Nongpoh, August 01: One person died while two others were left injured in a major accident which occured after one auto rickshaw in which they were seated collided head on with a vehicle coming from Guwahati area. The accident occured today afternoon at about 2:30 PM near Pahamawleiñ Nar-ang village in Ri-Bhoi District.
As per source information, it is said that the accident occured when the auto rickshaw bearing registration number ML 10 B 3474 which was being driven on the wrong side collided with a Ford Endeavour bearing registration number ML 10 C 5786 which was being driven at a very high speed to the point that the driver lost control of the vehicle and straightaway collided with this autorickshaw.
In the accident, one man identified as Julius Nongsiej, 28 years from Umling Lymbang, the driver of the autorickshaw is said to have died on the spot while two others who were injured are identified as Silbanus Lapang, 28 years from Nongkylla Byrnihat and Bijoy Makri from Sohpu Umling. The two injured persons were taken immediately to Civil Hospital.
The Traffic Police of Nongpoh promptly arrived at the site of accident for investigation and also took Sartaj Ansari, the driver of the Ford Endeavour to the police station for interrogation.
