SHILLONG, June 27: Disparsing Rani, the RTI activist from the State has informed that 1,16,563 job seeking youths applied for the 119 vacancies in the Secretariat office and he also informed that as per the RTI report received, the Government earned Rs 57, 88,367/- from the application fees paid by the hopeful job seekers.

As per the statement of Rani, for the 119 vacancies, the call for applications began on the 9th of February this year, however while seeking information on the delay in calling the interview, the departments informed that the delay was due to the pending case in the Meghalaya High Court, and now the preparations to fill these vacancies have been processed forward.

With regards to the complaints about backdoor appointments in the Secretariat, Rani informed that as per the RTI report received, there had not been any recruitment for any vacancy except for casual labourers for which an interview is held separately.

Rani also expressed his surprise over the money collected by the Government from the job applications because there are youths who have applied for several positions against notified vacancies from 2007 but have yet never been called for a written test or interview.

On the other hand, Rani also expressed concern over the promotion of officers and government employees, and said that the Government does not respect those who do their jobs dutifully because the ones who have benefitted from promotions in most of the departments are those with connections.
