SHILLONG, May 24: Following the collapse of the dome installed in the new Assembly building which is under construction, criticisms arose from many ends against the coalition MDA Government led by the National People’s Party (NPP), and the BJP has also demanded that the Chief Minister should step down as a result of inefficient management if he cannot constitute an independent enquiry committee.

On being queried on the 24th of May, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya who is also the National President of the NPP, Conrad K.Sangma said that the enquiry must be conducted by a team which has good knowledge about the work, and it has been decided that IIT will be tasked with studying in detail the incident and the Government and the HPC will have to wait till a report is submitted by this research or enquiry team.

With regards to the demand to step down as Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Sangma said that it is not for him to take the decision but the MLAs in the coalition government are the ones who will have to take the decision because the MLAs are the ones who had chosen him to take over as Chief Minister of the State.
