HEADLINES

SHILLONG, May 23: The Working President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Pynshngain N.Syiem said that the Congress is ready to lift the temporary suspension from party membership of the 5 MLAs if they are ready to withdraw support extended to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government led by the NPP in the State.

He said that it all depends on the 5 MLAs because if they are ready to withdraw their support from the Government, the Congress is also ready to lift their suspension and they may have a chance of getting the party ticket for the Assembly Election of 2023. But he said that if they are not ready to withdraw support then lifting the temporary suspension from party membership is also difficult.

On being queried, the leader of the Congress said that from amongst the MLAs who exited the party, including the 12 who merged with the AITC are regretting their move and have tried to seek for a ticket from other parties. He also said that currently to strengthen or join other parties, such as the Aam Admi Party(AAP) is not easy in this State.

On being queried further, Syiem informed that till now the MPCC has not received any information about MLAs who have exited the party desiring to return, but he said that perhaps there might have been a talk with the AICC. Syiem also said that given the situation in the coalition MDA Government, there are MLAs who have had discussed with the party to contest the Assembly Election of 2023 from the Congress party.
