WE ARE READY TO CLARIFY AGAIN, BUT TO REVAMP THE MOU IS NOT EASY: DY.CM

HEADLINES

SHILLONG, April 11: The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Prestone Tynsong who is also the Chairman of the Regional Committee for Ri-Bhoi District said that if required to meet and clarify again, the Government is ready to do so, but to revamp the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is not easy.

This was stated by the Deputy Chief Minister while responding to the question about expressions and wishes of the political parties who are coalition partners in the Government to re-examine the MoU again after opposition from a majority of the local residents and landowners in the interstate border areas.

He said that the claim about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Meghalaya and Assam to resolve the border issue being ill conceived is wrong because dissatisfaction and strong opposition is also seen amongst the public there due to the loss of their privately owned land.

Tynsong also said that the Government has discussed this matter at length and also conducted inspections at the interstate border areas, and added that as per his view, if truly this matter is to be resolved finally then both sides have to be balanced, and this does not mean that Meghalaya will lose everything or for Assam to lose everything, but to take the middle path for both sides to be balanced.
