PAYMENT TO ASHA WORKERS PILED UP DUE TO NON-PAYMENT BY PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT, RS.56 CRORES RELEASED THIS YEAR: CONRAD

SHILLONG, March 31: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma said that the payment due to the Accredited Social Health Activist(ASHA) workers piled up as result of the non-payment from the previous Government, and the payment had not been released for 4 years prior to the MDA Government taking over.

Speaking with the Chief Minister today, he said that the payments released to the ASHA workers were around Rs.10-11 crores in the year 2011, Rs.10-11 crores in the year 2013 and after that, no payments were made in 4 years and the payments due to them kept piling up every year.

He said that when the MDA Government took over, payments were released in 2019 and also in 2020 and this year upto Rs.56 crores were released.

Sangma said that the Government besides having released the payments for 3 years to the ASHA workers has also released the payments of 4 years kept pending by the previous Government. He also said that for the pending dues, the Government will try to clear them all within the coming few months.
