Jowai: The District Tuberculosis Control Society, West Jaiñtia Hills today commemorated the ‘World Tuberculosis Day’, a day observed annually all over the world, on the theme, ” Invest to end Tuberculosis, Save Life”, with the goal to eradicate Tuberculosis by 2025. This is also a part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme of the Government.
In Jowai, the day was commemorated with a motorbike rally which started from Mihmyntdu Play Ground near Lad Kiang Nangbah College and went on to all of Jowai city and finally culminating at the District Tuberculosis Centre, Panaliar, Jowai.
The commemoration of this day every year will help the people to be free from Tuberculosis through awareness programmes in different villages in the District, so that any person with symptoms of the disease can come forward and get proper treatment without any fear.
Furthermore, he also said that the Government is trying as best it can to create public awareness on the fact that disease can be treated with regular intake of medicines. Meanwhile, the District along with the Tuberculosis Centre got a chance to create public awareness through videos on social media.
On this day were also present, Dr.E.B.V Laloo- DTO Jaiñtia Hills, Jowai, Dr.I.Khyriem-Sr. Medical &Health Officer, Pynkhrelang Susngi-DTO Jowai, Monlang Syngkhong, the employees of District Tuberculosis and others.
