Shillong: Banteidor Lyngdoh, Minister incharge of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in the State Government on the 23rd of March,2022, personally inspected the start of the repair and renovation work of the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex,Polo.
The inspection of Lyngdoh is in part to follow up on the task in which the Government has set a goal to mandatorily have the work completed within the stipulated time.
Lyngdoh was accompanied in the inspection by the Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, John F.Kharshiing, Finely L.Pariat, General Secretary, Chief Engineer State Sports Council, Bibatdor M.Syiem, Paia War Nongbri, Assistant Director Sports and Youth Affairs.
As per the goal set by the Government, all the construction work which have begun now in J.N Stadium will be completed in the month of October this year, in part a preparation for the possibility to organise tournaments on this site.
Responding to a query with regard to the slow progress of the work and the shortage of workers, Lyngdoh touted by saying that the progress of the work has not been slow as the work has just been started recently.
Lyngdoh added that the construction this time will be different as the structure is entirely prefab and pre-engineered, but still he invited all including the Chief Engineer as well ad the contractor to be together at the inspection so that he can speak with them and understand the allocation of time for it to be completed as marked by the State Government.
In explaining further about the construction work which has started to move forward at the end of the Ground, Lyngdoh said that apart from the preparation to renovate the Football Ground, close to this ground which is on the Fifth Ground, the construction will consist of an Indoor Sports Complex which will also include a swimming pool and added to that another indoor stadium will be constructed to beautify and improve the whole area of this site.
