SHILLONG, March 17: The BJP MLA from Pynthorumkhrah, Alexander Laloo Hek expressed his support to revamp the Reservation Policy in the State, and on this matter he also spoke up in the Assembly during the discussion on the resolution presented by North Shillong MLA, Adelbert Nongrum.
He said that he agrees to the re-examination and revamp of the reservation policy, however it must be clear on how to revamp it, and added till date, the Khasi-Jaiñtia communities have a 40% reservation, the Garo community has a 40% reservation, and 20% reservation is kept for other communities.
As per the statement of Hek, a revamp of the reservation policy is necessary without disturbing the 40-40 reservation for the Khasi-Jaiñtia and Garo communities, however, he expressed that the 40% reservation should be specially allocated for the population belonging to the economically weaker sections of the Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo communities, so that they too may rise in the same way as others.
