ELABORATE DISCUSSIONS ON THE AMENDMENT TO THE SIXTH SCHEDULE HELD IN THE KHADC SESSION

HEADLINES

Shillong: The Opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, has strongly pressed that the aim to amend the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution should not at any cost do away with the laws and customs of the Khasi-Jaiñtia people which have already been established or to further weaken the authority of the Dorbar Shnongs, Himas or Elakas.

In raising the motion on the second day of the Budget Session in the KHADC, the MDC of the Congress party from Mylliem, Ronnie V.Lyngdoh said that it is necessary to get a clear and detailed exploration of the suggestions adopted especially relating to the matter known as the “unrepresented tribe”.

Lyngdoh stood up to give an example of what had recently happened in Garo Hills, by suggesting to the Executive Committee to take due notice and remove the words, “unrepresented tribe” altogether.
