SHILLONG, March 05 : Mawhati constituency MLA, Dasakhiatbha Lamare said that the far distance of the constituency has led him to decide that he will not be contesting the 2023 Assembly Election from Mawhati but will instead contest from Nongkrem as it is difficult for him to go to the constituency frequently due to the amount of work in Shillong to seek for benefits for the people beside other works.
He said that as a representative, if the representative works or is helpful in many aspects also but if he cannot be close with the common people then it is of no point, and also added that while he is quite disheartened if he cannot meet the people and the supporters frequently but going to the constituency every week is also not easy either.
Dasakhiatbha Lamare also said that he loves Mawhati and to be ungrateful to the constituency which led him to his first victory as an MLA is a sin, while also informing that Mawhati will have a contender who is a person closer to them and who is a local resident of the constituency in order to provide better service and benefits for the constituency.
On his decision to contest the upcoming election from Nongkrem, he said that in Nongkrem he already has friends who want to lead the way for him to represent the constituency. Responding to another query, he said that he has hope of winning from Nongkrem constituency even though he is a new person there, but he will have to work hard and he will have to gain the trust and love of the people because it is fight and it is not an easy one.
The General Secretary of NPP Mawhati Block, Donboklang Kharnaior expressed that as party workers they are saddened for they have work together to uplift and provide for the people of the constituency. He said that Lamare’s going to Nongkrem cannot be stopped and they send him off with blessings while expressing the expectation that Lamare remains with them and the people of Mawhati.
