The different associations of people with physical disabilities in Shillong city organised a Signature Campaign at the gate of the Old Assembly in Khyndailad in their effort for the Government to pay heed to the challenges faced by them and to request the Government to provide special needs equipments, special pavements and other assistance which will help them in carrying on with their daily activities.
Prior to the start of the Campaign, speeches and suggestions were delivered by persons with physical disabilities in which they expressed thechallenges they have had to face with regards to discrimination and the lack of support from fellow human beings in their times of need especially when they need to cross the road from one side to the other.
They also expressed that as persons with physical disabilities, they would like to make a suggestion to everyone to some understanding and empathy without any discrimination against anyone for as it appears now, there are very few civilians who understand the challenges that persons with physical disabilities undergo and who offer them help and support, and sometimes due to the lack of special needs equipments, they face more challenges while commuting.
On this day, songs made especially by persons with physical disabilities were played and the public also came forward to give their support to this cause.
