SHILLONG, February 17: The National People’s Party leader of the State Government is becoming a stronger party with each passing day with many political leaders joining the party, and today as well, an MDC of the GHADC from Boldamgre, Steve M.Marak along with his supporters joined the NPP in a gathering held to welcome them by the National President, Conrad K.Sangma, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar besides other leaders in the party office in Shillong city.

Steve M.Marak, an MDC who won on a Congress ticket had also been a close aide of the leader of the Opposition, Dr.Mukul Sangma and Boldamgre MDC constituency falls under Ampati. Marak had left the Congress and joined the All India Trinamool Congress in the past few months, but today, along with his supporters, they became full-fledged members of the NPP.

Speaking with media persons,Conrad Sangma said that the party welcomes Steve Marak and his supporters for deciding to join the NPP and expressed that political leaders from across the state joining the party will continue for the next coming days as well. He said that this is only the beginning of the many public representatives joining the party.

He said that the reason leading to Marak exiting from the AITC is over decisions being taken without others being notified, and while the leaders have supported Dr.Mukul Sangma for many

years, Dr.Mukul left Ampati and went to Songsak which has saddened the supporters. Furthermore, he said that the other reason is prior to merging with the AITC, no consensus was sought from the leaders but all decisions were taken solely by Dr.Mukul Sangma.

Sangma also said that Marak has expressed that the NPP is a party that is rapidly rising in the State and he feels that it would be right to work together with the party for the benefit of the public in his constituency.

He said that Marak joining the party is important and will be of immense help to the party as he is one the leaders who is well-known in Ampati, and added that the exit of Marak from the AITC shows that there is something in the party as other leaders are also talking about joining the NPP.

The leader of the NPP said that the party has not made any claim that it is on the rise but it has gained the trust of the public who have seen the work of the Government and feel that it is better to support the NPP.

On being asked, Sangma said that Ampati is an important seat for the party as the NPP does not have even one MLA from the 4 constituencies in South West Garo Hills. He said that the party is working hard to win some seats in SWGH while also expressing hope that with many well-known representatives joining the party, they can now work better and emerge victorious in this district.
