HEADLINES

SHILLONG, January 28: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma has said that there may be many reasons for the disarray that has arisen in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), while stating that the Government has also received a letter from the Chairman and other members informing of the resignation of the Executive Members and demanding for a Special Session to be called for a show of strength.

He said that the Government has never interfered with the operations in the District Council and now as well it shall not interfere. On being asked if the Opposition in the Government might have a hand in the instability of governance in the GHADC, Sangma said anything is possible but at present the democratic process must be allowed to take its course.

The Governor of Meghalaya has instructed for a Special Session of the GHADC to be held tomorrow the 29th of January at 11:00 AM for a show of strength against the Executive Committee headed by Benedic R.Marak as CEM.
